| Bolgheri: some of the most famous Cabernets and Merlots in the world are born in this territory. Over the years, the insight of the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who already in 1944 planted approximately one hectare of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc at Castiglioncello di Bolgheri, within the borders of the San Guido estate, has proven to fully valid. Starting in the 1970s, Sassicaia became a true legend, one of the best Italian wines for aging, able to astonish you after a long stay in the bottle. And this has not remained an isolated phenomenon. Untill now, there are about fifty producers who have great breeds of wines, and there are many varieties which are demonstrating their perfect adaptation to this territory. From Merlot to Syrah, from Petit Verdot to Sangiovese, the grapes turned into wine speak of that magic mix of factors expressed by the untranslatable French word, "terroir". At Bolgheri, terroir takes precedence over the grape varieties: the wines are a pure expression of Mediterranean fruit and complexity, with a constant quality that has few peers in the world. |
